BAHA / Ponto FAQ
- How early can my baby with atresia be fit with a BAHA/Ponto softband?
- ABR can be used to assess a baby’s hearing by bone conduction and a soft-band fitting can be done as soon as this testing is completed
- If my child has been wearing the processor on a softband and has now turned 5 years old, is surgery necessary?
- No, he can continue to use the softband arrangement. Surgery does avoid having to use the softband because the processor snaps onto the surgically-placed abutment, and typically clarity of sound is improved.
- If my child has never worn this type of devices on a softband, is it possible to try a BAHA or Ponto before surgery?
- Yes, the child can wear the processor on a test band or softband. Parents can get a sense of the sound by listening to the processor via a test rod.
